STC-Montreal Transforms to Ars Communica

The former Society of Technical Communication (STC) chapter in Montreal announced the new name for the organization,  Ars Communica, on April 24, 2012, at the “Writing for Narration” event held at Allo Inde in Montreal.

President pro tem Andy Gural commented that the name, which can mean “the skill or craft of sharing”  was well received by those in attendance, and said that the organization is open to suggestions for a slogan or tagline.

The volunteer committee is working to develop a membership and pricing structure and formal governance, as well as creating new events and a new website that focuses on the organization’s broadened focus. The group intends to reach a technical communication that includes technical illustrators, instructional designers, user experience designers, e-publishers, e-learning experts, and other emerging specialties. The organization also plans on developing a stronger social/networking presence for technical communicators in Montreal.

More details on the recent announcement  and upcoming plans are available at the current website.
