The STC Academic SIG, in cooperation with the Council for Programs in Technical and Scientific Communication (CPTSC), will again host a one-day Partnership Pre-conference on the day before the annual CPTSC conference. Scheduled for Thursday September 27, 2012 at Michigan Tech University, in Houghton Michigan, the pre-conference theme is designed to complement the theme of the annual CPTSC meeting, “Partnerships for Professionalism: Collaboration, Diversity, and Technology in Academia and Industry,” by fostering conversation between educators and practitioners.
The pre-conference will feature multiple topics of interest across academic/industry boundaries, and the STC Academic SIG seek to involve educators, practitioners, and students in the panels. Based on the success of the inaugural pre-conference in 2011, this year’s conference is being organized as hybrid conference, with a mix of virtual and face-to-face presentations. The SIG seeks presenters for this one-day, hybrid pre-conference, and is asking prospective presenters to submit a “lightning” proposal (of 100 words or less) for an eight-minute presentation that complements one of the following panel topics:
- Intercultural communication, collaboration, and diversity
- Pedagogy, e-learning, and continuing education
- Collaborative technologies and applications
- Research priorities and partnerships
Interested parties should include their status as an educator, practitioner, and/or student, and the intent present virtually or in person with their lightning proposals. Proposals should be emailed to admin@stc-academic.org before the deadline of July 13, 2012 .
The pre-conference will be offered free of charge. Questions on the pre-conference program or proposals should be sent to Pam Brewer at brewerpe@appstate.edu.
